The History of H.L. Moe
In 1927, Herb Moe and his family began the H.L. Moe Company. The
business was founded on four main principles: 1) to be known for its integrity; 2) to
provide the best product available; 3) to be on time and on schedule and 4) to treat
everyone fairly and with dignity. The company built its reputation by being a quality and
reliable plumbing contractor, building new homes and providing service and repair to
existing structures. By the late 1950's H.L. Moe grew and began providing commercial
building services as Los Angeles continued to be a popular locale for business owners to
set up their headquarters.
Having a desire to work within their community, the Davis family, residents of Glendale,
purchased H.L. Moe in 1964 and merged it with their L.A.-based company. Charles Davis
was attracted to H.L. Moe Co. because the mission and principles matched those of his
company.
What started out as a small family business has become one of the most respected
plumbing companies in Southern California. In 2000, the company's service capabilities
were significantly expanded with the addition of John K. Keefe - a mainstay on Los Angeles'
Westside since 1940 and Burt Plumbing, a Hollywood fixture since 1920.
While many of the Davis' continue to work at Moe, the company has greatly expanded with
more than 150 employees, many who have been part of the Moe family for 25 years or
more. To this day, the company remains true to its founding principles, which is best
reflected by the loyalty of its customers; some who have used Moe for more than 40 years
and across multiple family generations.
