Whether you need an emergency taken care of or require a new air conditioning or heating unit, a licensed HVAC technician is qualified to offer you professional and experienced help. At Moe Plumbing Services, each of our technicians have between 15 and 20 years of experience, at least five years of training, and the necessary license certification.

Keep in mind, our employees do not come to our company to learn how to perform their job. They stay updated with various policies, water-conservation techniques, and more. If you want our experienced help, you have the peace of mind knowing that our HVAC technicians are licensed.

California HVAC Licensing Requirements

The Contractors State License Board (CSLB) is a state body that is responsible for regulating the construction industry in California—which includes licensing—and protecting the state residents. HVAC installation, repair, and maintenance are all under the construction industry umbrella.

The HVAC trades are categorized as a Class “C” Specialty Contractor’s Licenses and given a designation of C20 – Warm-Air Heating, Ventilating, and Air-Conditioning Contractor. In order to be eligible for this type of license, you need to have at least four years industry experience as either a journeyman, foreman, supervisor, contractor, or owner-builder.

Furthermore, you need to pass the California Contractor Licensing exam in order to be a licensed HVAC technician. It is three and a half hours long and divided into two sections—the law and business portion exam and the HVAC trade specific exam.

A prospective technician needs to pass all sections of the exam to receive the award and his or her license. He or she must pass the exam within 18 months of making a valid application and receiving a Notification of Exam.

As you can see, obtaining a California HVAC license is a rigorous process. Knowing that your air conditioner or furnace is being repaired or replaced by a licensed technician ensures that you are getting experienced and skillful service.
