Los Angeles Certified Backflow Testing

What is a Backflow Prevention Device and Why Test It?

Water distribution systems are designed with the intention of water flowing in one direction - from the supply point to the consumer. However, conditions arise from either the supplier or the consumer that deviate from the "normal" conditions causing water to flow in the opposite direction. This is called backflow.

A backflow device prevents contamination in potable water. There are more than 10,000 cases of backflow contamination reported each year, which can be extremely dangerous and even fatal. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires that local agencies be responsible for maintaining the purity of the water. As a result, most local counties or water suppliers require backflow prevention devices be tested annually.

A properly working backflow device prevents the unwanted flow of potentially contaminated water, used water, industrial fluids, or other substances from any domestic, industrial, or institutional piping system into a pure or potable water system. County authorities require that backflow devices be tested annually and will typically send a reminder several weeks before the test is due. The test must be completed by a person possessing a valid Certificate of Competence issued by the County of Los Angeles Health Officer.

Why Choose Moe Plumbing Services?

There are a few things we pride ourselves on at Moe Plumbing Services. Not only do we operate on our four founding principles, but there are certain characteristics that we believe set us apart from the other plumbing companies in Los Angeles.

Expertise
Moe Plumbing Services offers backflow testing and repairs by certified testers, who are also journeyman plumbers. This is valuable because a failed test can lead to plumbing repairs, which are not provided by specialty backflow testers.

Value
Our technicians are trained to evaluate the system and provide recommendations to avoid or minimize future test failures. In the event that a water shut-down is necessary, we will look at all of your options and provide you with long term and more cost-effective solutions such as installing a secondary bypass device allowing the water to remain on during future repairs of the devices. This greatly reduces the need for expensive and inconvenient after-hour water shut-downs.

Service
We provide a comprehensive maintenance program for our customers who require backflow testing. We will not only track your backflow devices testing and due dates, but we keep thorough records of the device repair and replacement history. We also have well-established relationships with the local water purveyors. This allows us to work with them on your testing requirements and handle any questions or concerns that may arise during this process. This gives you the peace of mind that an expert is taking care of your facility and has your best interests in mind. Just one phone call to our backflow team will get you set-up for service year after year.
