Hourly Vs. FlatRate... We'll Explain, You Decide.
When we first began this business, everyone charged the same way.
Prices were based on time and material. Over the past few years, flat rate fees emerged.
This means that customers are charged a flat rate for a given job. This can be appealing to
customers, because they will know ahead of time what the cost will be for the repair, right?
Actually, that is not the case. Flat rates are arrived at by determining what is the most time
it would take on average for a repair. Then, if a larger problem is discovered, customers are
charged more. So really it is not a flat rate, but more of a starting rate. Additionally, there is
a high hourly rate figured into that fee. From our experience, that rate is about $180 per
hour, more than double our rate.
With time and material-based fees, you are charged for the time the technician takes to
complete the repair, plus any material that is used. We have chosen this pricing method
because we believe it is fair and if we had a technician coming to our home, this is how we
would prefer to be charged.
We understand that customers would like to know what to expect when the invoice is
ready. That is why we always provide an estimate on the fee for the service. And if our
technician discovers a bigger issue, he will always provide an update on the extent of the
repair. There are many areas of our business where we keep up with the times, but,
fortunately for our customers, our price is not one of them.
