4 Summertime Plumbing Tips

Beat the Heat and Avoid Plumbing Problems – Follow these Tips for Ultimate Success this Summer

Want to avoid major plumbing problems this summer? At Moe Plumbing Services, we’ve got you covered! Follow the tips and tricks listed below to preserve your plumbing system and prevent any major issues from occurring.

  1. Monitor the hose on your washing machine. Bulges, leaks, and / or cracks in your hose can mean major plumbing problems. Hoses should be replaced approximately every 3 years to avoid any major blowouts.
  2. Watch what you put down the garbage disposal. These systems aren’t designed to handle the typical foods you barbecue at a cookout. Avoid putting cooking oils, cornhusks, and stringy foods like banana peels and celery down the drain. Foods like this can quickly clog your pipes.
  3. Position your washing machine appropriately. Moving your washing machine approximately 4 inches away from the wall can help prevent kinking and damage of your hose.
  4. Check for condensation in your ductwork. When it’s humid outside, ductwork can “sweat” from condensation, which can create backup in the system if the drains aren’t clear. Leaky seams can also result in condensation. Check your drain pan – if there’s water in the pan, contact a plumber as soon as possible.

As with anything, the best way to ensure your plumbing system is working properly is to schedule regular maintenance. We recommend an annual inspection to stay on top of what’s going on with your plumbing system.
